It’s always good to look out for each other. Hell, it’s good to be able to look … period. Ask any of the twelve to twenty-four thousand people that go blind each year due to diabetic retinopathy. And ask any standup comic, many of whom go throughout their lives without any health insurance that could treat these problems properly. So when L.A. comedy darling Erica Doering was told that she needed an emergency vitrectomy within a few weeks to keep from going blind – and she didn’t have the health care to do it - her fellow comics decided to look out for her.

The Steve Allen Theatre will host The “Eye Care For Erica” Benefit Show on Thursday April 6th to raise money for Erica’s medical expenses, raise awareness for diabetes, and raise the roof with laughs thanks to one of the best standup lineups in recent memory. Or if you can’t make it send Erica a donation to cover your guilt, you heartless bastards.

Erica needs money for the following:
$6000 Emergency Vitrectomy Surgery
$2000 After Care
$1000 Living expenses for the two months she’ll be laid up in a gurney

All donations/ticket purchases can be sent directly to Erica here:
http://www.ceisecure.com/ericadoering.html

...or via PayPal by sending to recipient:
ericadoering@hotmail.com

Please specify whether you are purchasing tickets and/or making a donation.

Aside from money, Erica’s wish list includes:

1) A laptop with a DVD player and internet capability. She won't be able to use her regular computer or television after the surgery for at least 8 weeks and this would allow her to watch movies, write, etc.

2) Products made to aid recovery from this surgery, which can be found here: http://www.vitrectomy.com/?m=face

3) A massage gift certificate or maybe a certified massage therapist who’d be willing to stop by her place--Her neck and back won’t be happy while she’s stuck in that gurney for such a duration.
