SOS is an alternative recovery method for those with alcohol or drug problems who are uncomfortable with the spiritual content of widely available 12-step programs. SOS takes a reasonable, secular approach to recovery and maintains that sobriety is a separate issue from religion or spirituality. SOS credits the individual for achieving and maintaining his or her own sobriety, without reliance on any “Higher Power.”
Biographical information: William A. Lambos, Ph.D. (“Bill”) is a member of the American Psychology Association, The American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and the Association for Conflict Resolution. He holds a doctorate in Behavioral Psychology as well as advanced certificates in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy from the Albert Ellis Institute.
Bill is also a Certified Family Mediator working with the Rational Living Foundation, where he specializes in the treatment of substance abuse, family conflict, grieving, anxiety disorders and depression.
Bill has provided services to the Florida Dept. of Corrections in Pinellas, Hillsborough, and Polk counties in the areas of substance abuse and family mediation. Bill and the Rational Living Foundation consult with corporations, schools and numerous other organizations to promote rational and scientific approaches to management, education and conflict resolution.
However, Bill’s role as an SOS Group Leader is neither as a Psychologist nor Mediator, but as an individual in recovery who wishes to assist others in their own path to recovery through the principles of SOS and Rational Theory.
