Behind the Camera...
If using the microphone built into the camera, make sure
the reader is close enough to the camera to hear him or her
clearly.
Frame the picture so you can see the reader and the
background (and/or landmark) behind the reader. Try for a ½
shot (we see the reader from the waist to the top of the
head).
“White Balance” the camera if the camera has that
feature.
Make sure there is no source of bright light behind the
reader.
Keep the camera as steady as possible – if possible, use
a tripod.
If you must pan or zoom at all, do so very slowly.
Before starting, shoot 10 or 20 seconds and play it back
to make sure the picture and sound are good.
Shoot at least 30 seconds of the people watching the
reader (if any).
Label the tape, film, disc, card, DVD, or stick when
finished.
Have the next person ready to read when the current
reader is finished.
